Conflict in adolescent dating relationships inventory

Training in conflict resolution strategies is a goal in different intervention contexts, and the Conflict Resolution Styles Inventory is a proven, useful tool for assessing these skills. Two studies were conducted, one aimed at analyzing psychometric properties of this instrument, and the other at verifying its ability to discriminate between violent and non-violent adolescent dating partners. In the first study, with adolescents, confirmatory factor analyzes were performed with the two subscales self and partner. The second study, with 1, adolescents, tested whether the factorial structure obtained discriminates between levels of dating violence involvement. Besides verifying the adequacy of items, the results of the first study showed the same three-factor structure in both versions: The second study demonstrated the discriminative capacity of both scales.

Journal of Interpersonal Violence , v24 n5 p In line with the cognitive-contextual framework proposed by Grych and Fincham , evidence suggests that children exposed to interparental conflict IPC are at risk for experiencing conflict within their own intimate relationships. The mediating role of adolescent appraisal in the relation between IPC and adolescent dating behavior was examined in the current study.

Specifically, it was hypothesized that self-blame and threat appraisals would mediate the relation between IPC and adolescent maladaptive dating behaviors. Findings suggest that self-blame appraisal partially mediated the relation between IPC and adolescent sexual aggression, and between IPC and adolescent threatening behavior. In addition, perceived threat appraisal partially mediated the relation between IPC and adolescent sexual aggression.

In recent years, we have noticed increasing interest in analysing the nature of aggressive behaviours that occur in romantic relationships of some adolescents: In this context, this instrumental study was made with a sample of participants between 15 and 19 years old, with the purpose of examining the reliability and validity of the Spanish version of the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory CADRI ; this is a self-report measure which was designed to assess five types of intimate violence in adolescent dating relationships: The results showed that Threatening behaviour is the only one factor that is not valid in our context and also that the reliability indices for the different subscales and factors are quite similar to the original instrument, although the internal consistence of any of them are not very high.

Forms of Violence in the Affective-Sexual Relationships of Adolescents

Given the high prevalence of dating violence among adolescent and the significant consequences associated with adolescent dating violence, including its co-occurrence with other problematic behaviors such as alcohol and substance abuse, standardized measures to assess adolescent dating violence are essential. In study one, the short form CADRI-S was derived from a sample of high school students, and its psychometric properties were analyzed. Results showed acceptable reliability indices and confirmatory factor analyses revealed a good model fi t. Indicators of convergent, concurrent and predictive validity are also provided. Although the sensitivity of the new short form was lower than that of the full scale, findings provided initial evidence of the validity of the CADRI-S and its potential applications are discussed.

The model structure fit for all grades and both sexes, with physical abuse, verbal abuse, and threatening behavior most representative of the underlying "abuse" factor. In Studies 3 and 4, the second-order abuse factor showed acceptable test-retest reliability, partner agreement, and correlation significant for males only between observer ratings of dating partners' interactions and youths' CADRI scores.

Violence in the affective-sexual relationships of adolescents is a theme that has been highlighted by the literature as a result of its high rates of prevalence.
