I'm a something widow who has gotten used to traveling alone. I'm not usually much of a nightlife person, but it seems that bars and music clubs are a big part of the local experience. I already know about taking taxis at night. What I'd like is recommendations of places to go that would be fun and relaxed, where I can sit back, sip a drink, and listen to some music.

I understand that Frenchman Street is calmer than Bourbon Street , but what specific places would you advise? I would suggest going to Snug Harbor. If you are there for a week, there will be someone different every night. DO call ahead and reserve a ticket and DO get there at 7pm for the early performance so you can sit up front. I was also comfortable at the Funky Pirate. It was a great time.

Faye is great and she will make you a mean Bloody Mary. Have a great trip!! On Frenchmen Street They all have early sets that start any where from 4pm to 6 or 7 pm. Take a cab to and from it's only a few bucks and avoids walking alone in some areas where few others are around. Blues--The Funky Pirate on Bourbon Street is a very nice place to sit, have a drink, and enjoy some excellent music!

I'm ish too and I enjoyed being in that club listening to some excellent Blues music by Mark Penton and The Pentones. So if you're looking for something on Bourbon, I highly recommend the Funky Pirate. It's celeb chef John Besh's mid-priced Italian influenced - but real eclectic place. The chef may cook up things you have a hunger for even if they are not on the menu. The bartenders are colorful, and the bar crowd is civilized and diverse. Sit next to the ordering station so you can get in on the banter and mechanics of making the sometimes odd drinks ordered only in New Orleans.

B's would be a good choice for solo dining. Dining at the bar at Domenica is fun. Luke is another John Besh restaurant in the Hilton on St. Dining at the bar at Luke is fun also. Antoine's is in the FQ. Full menu at Muriel's bar also. Very good. I second the Frenchmen St. I eat at the bars of all kinds of restaurants.
