When I was freshman in HS my boyfriend was a senior in HS i know it's not exactly the same as op friend's situation and at the time I didn't think it was weird. It obviously wasn't legal during most of our relationship as I was with him 4 years or so.

College Freshman and High School Sophomore?

Since we've come up on Valentine's Day I thought I'd take the time to talk about something sweet and sappy. Oh, love. It's what makes the world go round. It gives us happiness and joy as well as sadness and heartbreak and every emotion in between. It's something we choose to feel but is something we constantly ask for. I've chosen to be in a relationship for over 2 years now and I'd be lying if I said it was easy being committed to someone, especially at the age I am at.

We've been through a lot of ups and downs, but what relationship hasn't? I'm a freshman in college and he's a senior in high school. This has been the hardest down and the biggest obstacle in our relationship thus far. We know we can't control this which makes it that much harder. Being a senior in high school, there are so many things going on.

Many lasts, graduation, wondering where to go in the fall. It's all so much to take in. Being a freshman in college is a lot as well. A new place, new people, being on your own. There's so much to learn. My boyfriend and I knew this change was coming my senior year, but we never dreamt it would be this hard. All the drives I've made back and forth between home and school, all the facetime calls, the late night texting.

It's been a struggle. The hardest part is I'm practically living 2 different lives, my college life and my life back home. This can be hard for him to understand. He doesn't understand the world I'm living in and I understand his because I lived it already. It sucks because he will get it next year when he's in college. Sometimes we fight just because we miss each other. It's so annoying because we know if we were together we wouldn't be arguing.

This transition is very hard because when I was in high school, we had the same friends, did all the same things together, if we wanted to hang out it was just a short drive. Now I have a whole new group of friends at college, I'm trying things I've never done before and that short drive turned into 3 hours. I can't help but wonder if next year will be easier or even harder.

We could potentially be even farther apart from each other and he's going to be going through exactly what I'm going through right now. It's like I'm always one step ahead and he's always one behind me. My biggest goal going into college was to not miss out on his senior year. This wasn't easy. I attended many football games, senior night, homecoming, etc. Sometimes it was hard finding time in my schedule and other times it was very easy to attend things back home.

It's always a mystery on what's going to happen next, but in the end, I wouldn't have it any other way. Relationships take work, we know this, therefore, we continue to put in the effort for one another. When the time comes we will be on the same page, it just takes patience and constantly being there for one another. I may not be the worlds most interesting woman, but I do try my best not to be a bore.

I'm a writer, and I've found that we are about the least boring people you'd ever meet. That being said, I've got a very diverse group of friends, and they add a little spice to my life daily. We talk for hours about anything and everything. You name it and we've said it. I've found that we do, as we all do, love to talk about guys.

That being said, they don't take over the conversation. Even the friend who has a boyfriend doesn't talk our ear off about him. I'm going to say this, and yes it's pretty blunt. If the most interesting thing you have to talk about is your boyfriend- honey, you're screwed. Some girls meet a boy and become his shadow. They're everywhere he is, and when they're apart, it's a trauma for them, since they're so used to being together.

You literally don't remember the last time you saw them without their boyfriend, attached at the hip, like a robot. I'm a great listener, but there is only so much listening I can do before I feel my brain cells dying. I'm single, so yeah I'm allowed to be annoyed and salty they have someone when I don't. But there comes a time when it's genuinely disgusting to me when someone can only talk about their boyfriend in a public and private setting.

You can't base your whole life on this person, even if you marry them. You have to have your own life. You'll literally chase your friends away because they'll get sick of you. I used to be that girl, way back in the day of course, and my friends had to basically tell me to shut up every ten minutes before I got the idea of just how annoying I was being. We're all adults now, and if you can't talk about the cool music you just discovered, or about that night out last week with your girls and feel like you HAVE to mention your boyfriend, you're as good as gone in my mind.

If you replace time with your friends and family with a boyfriend, don't expect them to want to be around you. They probably lost interest in all of your stories. Don't get mad, get it together and stop. In ten years from now, don't be the person at your work function who all your fellow employees avoid. Be the one starting a party game, or telling that story about your day trip to New York with your family for your birthday.

Celebrate you outside of a relationship. You can talk about it, but you've got to watch yourself before it's too late. I'm not here to call out anyone I know, so please don't get offended because I'm simply saying what I want and don't regret it. If you read this and think it applies to you, I think that speaks for itself.

I'm all about talking about anything and everything, but if your boyfriend is all you've got to talk about, count me out of the conversation. I have always heard that one day I will find a place that will feel like my home away from home, specifically with my significant other.

Honestly, I couldn't envision loving a place like the way I do my hometown, let alone love it even more. Nonetheless, here I am, sitting in the Little Rock, Arkansas airport tearing up as I say goodbye to my home away from home. Let me tell you about my hometown. I live in a relatively small town in Wyoming and it has always been my home.

My family, friends and work are here in Wyoming. But, there happens to be this man who has my whole entire heart. His hometown is a little town in Arkansas, that also happens to be 17 hours away from me. I came to visit him in his hometown for the first time ever. Not only to see Arkansas for the first time but to see him for the first time in a month and to have the opportunity to meet his family. I won't lie, meeting parents for the first time is definitely nerve-wracking.

It's not that I am hard to get along with, it's the fact that I want them to love me because I love their son and I couldn't conceptualize that ever changing. From the moment I stepped into their home, I was welcomed with big arms and beautiful smiles. His family welcomed me, a complete stranger, into their home with no questions asked.

Right away I knew I felt like I was home. Finding your home away from home is easy to recognize. Home is a place full of love and laughter and that is what I found in Arkansas. It was a second home that I felt comfortable in. Feeling comfortable somewhere is not always the easiest feeling to grasp. For me, I feel the need to be in a comfortable place to be myself and call it "home.

I believe that it is essential for everyone to have a "second home" or a "home away from home. I of course do and always will love and adore my family with my whole heart and soul but having these other people in my life gives me so much assurance that I'll always be surrounded with love and happiness. You can never have too many friends, too much family and certainly never too much love.

So thank you. Thank you for welcoming me, loving me as your own, and showing me that having a home away from home is such a positive part of my life. Colleen Finney Colleen Finney Feb 13, Briana Gagnon Briana Gagnon May 1, Connect with a generation of new voices. Learn more Start Creating.

Too many tattoos. Too crude in his language and jokes. Too rough around the edges for her liking. So what if the sweet-talking guy with the unique sounding name — Sione Takitaki — was one of the prized newcomers on the BYU football team? I had tattoos and stuff like that. But I kept trying and eventually it took just one time for us to go on a date, and it took off from there. But before this story of love and redemption could take hold, there were a lot of dark days, Takitaki was kicked off the BYU football team once and suspended from playing three times. He got arrested for theft and sat out a year to get his mind right and life in order. What followed, however, was a remarkable turnaround — the latest chapter coming on Monday, when Takitaki was named a team captain for the season. When Alyssa and Takitaki met that fall of , Takitaki had already had one brush with trouble.
